The Living Earth has been designed and written following the High School Three-Course Model for California. It will also suit NGSS-aligned states integrating Earth Science with Biology. Echolocating vertebrates (not mammals)
In the teacher's edition, there has been a clarification to the answer (clarification in bold).
Q21. The echolocation of oilbirds is not as well developed as that of bats. This may be because it is a relatively recent innovation in a lineage separate to that of mammals or because it is not essential to the bird's lifestyle.

This error is not present in the Digital Edition or Teacher's Digital Edition

Please advise that we have found some minor numbering errors for the currently circulating Teacher's Editions and some printings of the student edition on pages 25, 62, 111-112, 184, 223, 290-293, 298, 306, 319-320, and 395-396. These for a result of last minute changes to activities for which we apologize.
